DoorDash is bringing more robot deliveries to the streets of Los Angeles and Chicago. The company is expanding its partnership with Coco Robotics to roll out sidewalk robot delivery in both cities, offering customers a new way to get food from local merchants.
This move builds on an earlier pilot with Wolt, DoorDash’s international brand, where Coco robots have been making deliveries in Helsinki. In the U.S., nearly 600 restaurants and merchants in LA and Chicago now offer robot delivery through the DoorDash app. If eligible, your next food order might be dropped off by one of Coco’s small, emissions-free robots.
During the pilot, Coco completed over 100,000 deliveries for DoorDash. The expansion is part of DoorDash’s broader plan to use a mix of delivery methods—cars, bikes, drones, and robots—to lower costs, speed up service, and cut emissions.
“Not every delivery needs a 2-ton car just to deliver two chicken sandwiches,” said Harrison Shih, Senior Director of DoorDash Labs. “We believe the future of delivery will be multi-modal, and we’re thrilled to partner with Coco to expand sidewalk robot deliveries that complement the Dasher network as we continue to enhance the DoorDash experience for customers and merchants.”
Coco’s robots have been operating in Los Angeles since 2020 and recently launched in Chicago, Miami, and Helsinki. The company now has a fleet of more than 1,000 emissions-free delivery robots.
“We’re excited to expand our partnership with DoorDash, combining Coco’s AI robocourier platform with DoorDash’s national scale and reach,” said Zach Rash, Co-founder and CEO of Coco Robotics. “This collaboration marks an important step forward in reshaping urban delivery in the U.S., starting with Los Angeles and Chicago, to offer merchants and customers a reliable, sustainable, and delightful delivery experience.”
The partnership was developed through DoorDash Labs, the company’s robotics and automation arm. It comes just months after DoorDash partnered with The Home Depot to expand its delivery services to the home improvement sector—part of a larger push to grow its footprint beyond food.
Robot delivery is also part of a growing trend across the logistics industry. Other companies are testing their own autonomous delivery tools, including Evri’s robot dog pilot for last-mile delivery, showing how tech is reshaping the way packages and meals reach your door.
