A new joint venture between automotive suppliers Sodecia and AAPICO will build a 120 million dollar manufacturing facility in Orangeburg County, South Carolina, according to an announcement from the Office of the Governor. The plant will be the partnership’s first site in the United States and will create 392 jobs in a region that has been working to attract more large-scale employers. The facility will produce ladder frames for Scout Motors vehicles and is expected to support the company’s new assembly plant in Blythewood.

State officials say the 400,000-square-foot site will play a key role in the growing automotive and electric-vehicle supply chain across South Carolina. Governor Henry McMaster described the project as an important step for the region’s manufacturing base. Company leaders said the decision to locate in Orangeburg County reflects the area’s workforce, available industrial land, and proximity to major transportation routes.

“By combining forces with partners who share the same vision for sustainability and innovation, we are confident we can deliver solid value for our customers. This enthusiasm is the very foundation on which this new facility will be built,” said Sodecia CEO Anibal Coutinho.

“South Carolina’s growing automotive industry and strong workforce create the ideal environment for AAPICO and Sodecia to bring advanced manufacturing and job opportunities to the area,” added AAPICO’s CEO Yeap Swee Chuan.

Local officials say the new plant will be a major boost for Orangeburg County, which has been eager to attract more industrial investment. The project is also expected to support additional supplier activity as Scout Motors builds out its production network in the state.

The joint venture plans to begin work on the site soon, with hiring expected to start ahead of production. State agencies, including the South Carolina Department of Commerce, will provide workforce and training support to help staff the facility.

“This announcement marks another important milestone as we work to build a robust, local supply chain for Scout Motors and create meaningful opportunities for South Carolinians,” added Scout Motors President and CEO Scott Keogh.
