Walmart has officially launched drone delivery in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, teaming up with Zipline to offer 30-minute drop-offs from its Supercenter in Mesquite, Texas. The free service is now available to residents within a 2-mile radius of the store, with plans to expand across the metroplex.

This marks Zipline’s first full-scale launch in North Texas. While Walmart has tested drone deliveries for years, including with Zipline in Arkansas and other locations since 2021, this is its biggest move yet into a large urban area.

“We are thrilled that our customers will now have access to this exclusive service,” said Jason Kelley, Store Manager at the Mesquite Walmart. “Zipline delivery will offer these families yet another way our store is helping them save money and live better.”

Zipline’s new Platform 2 drones quietly fly up to 300 feet before lowering a package on a tether. The drone stays in place while the package gently drops to a customer’s yard, patio, or doorstep. The company says customers have called the experience “quiet,” “gentle,” and “magical.”

The drones can carry up to eight pounds and deliver over 65,000 items—everything from groceries to birthday candles—within a 10-mile range. Deliveries run from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on weekdays, and 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on weekends.

“We’ve already become part of people’s daily routines,” said Conner Wilkinson, Head of Community Engagement at Zipline. “Busy parents, older adults—anyone who doesn’t want to spend time running errands—are loving it.”

Walmart says it’s now aiming to reach 75% of the Dallas-Fort Worth region with drone delivery, working with Zipline and Alphabet-owned Wing. Since 2021, Walmart has completed more than 120,000 drone deliveries.
